This vision to serve the food insecure through a choice pantry in Northwest Arkansas was birthed in 2014 through the experience of our Executive Director. As he was serving a client through what was then our bag and give pantry the person he was serving began to take items out of the bag and place them on the table beside them. He stated that all the items in the bag were for her use but she softly replied, "I am grateful for all of them but I am diabetic and can't eat these". It was then that He knew there had to be a better way to serve people more effeciently and effectively with their needs while preserving their diginity and cutting back on waste. Feed The 479 was born!

Through a series of events, partnerships, and decisions the pantry began to take shape. However, things really started to evolve quickly with the addition of Brenda Perritt in 2015 as the Director of the Feed the 479 pantry. After recieving the vision from our Executive Director, Brenda began to organize a volunteer army that would not only support the dream physically but financially as well. In its first year of existence the pantry was given its first name The Choice Pantry and the results were astounding! The pantry increased the amount of people served by 269% and totaling 14,570 served. With such success and growth the need to expand was immediate and the challenge was met with exuberance. Through individual, corporate, and partnership funding (See Our Sponsors page) the pantry was moved, renovated and renamed in 2016 as the Feed The 479 pantry.

The vision continues under the leadership and direction of Dennis Smiley who continues to build a strong and consistent pipeline of resources dedicated to feeding those who are food insecure. This fiscal year of 2020-21 the Feed the 479 pantry increased the amount served to 138,927 individuals with their food needs. All of these resources are available because of individual and corporate sponsors who financially give monthly to the cause.
